There are a number of different writing sites out there that are basically blogging platforms with revenue sharing. You provide them with the content, no matter the quality or subject matter, and they`ll post it on their site and give you half of the revenue. Some are better than others, earning through Google`s Adsense which requires more than a fifty word article on your dog to earn money, but they still won`t provide you with a large source of income or help you build a following, simply because they are available to everyone. There are other websites, online magazines, or publishing networks that can help you earn a lot more money for your work, but also help you gain a following and actually have your work read by people who care about what you have to say.
Brighthub
Brighthub is a singular website, much like a large blog, with many different categories. Most of the information on the site is factual, though there is some editorial content depending on the subject (product reviews and child rearing being prime examples). They are serious about having high quality, SEO optimized work, and pay fifteen dollars for a 750 word article. While that only amounts to two cents a word, writers will also earn between 60-80% of the ad revenue. The remaining percentage goes to the contributing editor, who oversees and edits individual articles, the managing editor, who adds titles to the article bank, processes new writers, and promotes their respective category (-or categories. Many managing editors oversee more than one topic, and are contributing editors or writers in other categories as well). Whatever is left over goes to the website itself. The website has a reputation for being a very reputable source, providing informative and well written content to readers for years.
Demand Studios
Demand Studios is one of the biggest online publishing networks around, and commands a great deal of content. As of the time of this article, there are over twenty five thousand titles available to be claimed, each paying in-between $7.50 to $16.50 (The most common amount is $15.00) I was accepted right away and found that I could write enough to make an average of $100 a month. I could have made much more, but a lot of the titles were obscure, or did not have online references. You must provide at least two references, and one of them must be online so it can be checked by editors. You can also apply to be a copy editor, provided you have experience in print editing, and you earn $4.00 per article that you edit. The advantage of the site is its simplicity, the disadvantage is that the titles are so obscure and sometimes about things or places that do not exist.
Factoidz
Factoidz is another great online writing site, in which all information must be factual and informative. There is a heavy emphasis on SEO, as your earnings are directrly calculated because of your articles SEO ranking. Very high rankings earn a per thousand view rate of $8.00-$10.00, and low rankings earn about $0.50 for a thousand views. You also earn a small activity bonus for each article that you publish, the amount of which is determined by past traffic to your articles. This lowest amount that you can get per article is $0.13, but it is very common to get above a dollar per article on top of revenue sharing.
Suite101
The site that you are reading this on has a writer`s program as well! Suite is a very reputable online magazine with a great reputation as one of the top places to write online at. They share the ad revenue of your articles with you, similar to eHow`s old payment plan before it was bought by Demand Studios. Suite101 has a great community that help and teach their fellow writers how to get the most out of their writing. While the amount of money you make is directly influenced by the amount of traffic you get, and nothing more, it is imperative that you have a good understanding of SEO and how to build backlinks. This is the only site on the list that does not offer an upfront payment for each article, but it was included because it is arguably the most influential writing site online. Many writers for Suite have been offered jobs at newspapers or magazines, and the amount of money you can make from the revenue share on the site is quite substantial with enough work and dedication.
