The Cyborg V.5 Keyboard is primarily designed for gaming, but has a number of features that make it ideal for a writer as well. The keys are soft to touch and very responsive, and it is really comfortable to type for long periods of time on this keyboard. The anti-ghosting capabilities of this keyboard mean that you will never see characters that you haven’t pressed appear, and what you type on the keyboard is exactly what you get on the computer screen. It connects via a USB cable, meaning that the connection to the computer is always reliable and secure, and will work on Windows XP (including 64-bit), Vista, and 7.
Shape and Support
The keyboard itself is somewhat awkwardly shaped. Instead of the basic rectangle design, the V.5 has nubs coming out of each corner, extending a few centimeters. The wrist rest is curved to allow support based on the natural positioning of the typist’s hands, but adds a lot more space to the keyboard, which could be a problem in a smaller area. I have found that with typing, it does not give me proper support. However, when I play a computer game, it is ideal because it gives you support to use the keys that are most commonly used. The wrist rest can be removed based on your needs, which is a definite plus.
Back Lighting and Indicators
The entire keyboard is backlit, and lights up in a nice red color that I quite enjoy. It has two illumination settings, bright and dim (as well as off, of course), which I switch between quite often. I like the bright illumination the best, because I often find myself typing late into the night. One thing that I absolutely love about this keyboard, but had trouble finding in a wireless keyboard, were the LED lock indicators right above the F5-9 keys. Using my Logitech MK320, or even my basic Dell keyboard, there are no indicators whatsoever concerning any of the locks, which often ends up in my typing an entire sentence in reverse capitalization.
Drivers
When I purchased this keyboard, I noticed in the manual that I could download special software that would allow me to customize the function keys however I wished, though I have never had the need to do so. I use my keyboard for gaming, sometimes, but mostly typing, and have never found the need to reprogram the function keys. That option is there though, in case that is a need for you.
Summary
This keyboard is great for both gaming and typing, and is pretty inexpensive. I would highly recommend this keyboard for anyone looking for a touch typing keyboard, or for a keyboard to play any kind computer game with.
